Lemanis were formed with one primary aim: to create a 4 piece band with all voices good enough to sing lead.
That small plan didn't last long however, and shortly into recording the 1st album (Shell, 2007), a horn section was borrowed from a local soul band to drive the sound on 'Ice Cream Dream'. Shortly after, a violin and cello were drafted in to add strings to 'Lady', and Tamsyn Cayzer was invited to the studio to sing the end section of 'Boy Girl Song'.
As the album progressed and sounds grew, more musicians were recruited including flutes and more strings, and our own horn section was slowly built. The result was that 'Shell' is far too big at times to be played by the 4 piece band alone, so the album launch featured our incredible little 'orchestra' who have stayed with the band ever since.
Lemanis second album (The Truth About a Push Me Pull You) was released in February 2009, prompting some impressive reviews from numerous sources. Expanding on the broad, orchestral sound developed for Shell, the second LP sees a progression and maturity of the Lemanis Sound that is reflected in their live performances. The band are committed to making every show special, and have become capable of entertaining as anything from an acoustic trio to a 14 piece, orchestra-backed musical army. Gradually expanding their musical reach around the country, Lemanis are all about making people smile.
